New Balance opens new world headquarters at Boston Landing

Interactive media, communal workspace, and direct views of Boston are some of the perks New Balance is counting on to attract young workers to its new world headquarters in Brighton.

New Balance has moved about 700 employees into its new 250,000-square-foot building at the 15-acre Boston Landing development. The old headquarters, a short walk down Guest Street which is parallel to the Massachusetts Turnpike, will be occupied by Harvard Business Publishing.

“It’s truly a modern building that allows us to collaborate the way millennials work today,” said New Balance president and chief executive Robert DeMartini. “It’s much less individual space and much more open public space with more electronic and digital engagement.”

When TripAdvisor opened new headquarters in July 2015 in Needham, it built the facility to attract technology hires. DeMartini said New Balance will add about 100 corporate employees each year, particularly from the 25- to 30-year-old demographic. Since making the move, employees who attended the tour said they appreciated the openness of the floor plan, which is geared toward working together.
