Business news : Canadian wholesale outboard shipments fall in July

Retail sales are about flat, though sales of outboards over 100hp were up five per cent
                   
Wholesale shipments of outboard engines in Canada were down 6.5 per cent in July compared to a year ago, according to data from the National Marine Manufacturers Association. The NMMA uses data from its control group of manufacturers.
                   
The trade association said that on a rolling 12-month (R12M) basis, outboard shipments were down 15.3 per cent compared to a year ago.
                   
Retail estimates of outboard engine sales in Canada, based on warranty card registrations, were down -0.9 per cent (R12M through July) compared to a year ago.
                   
The data said that higher-powered engines (100hp and up) continued to grow year over year (R12M up 4.9 per cent) while comparable shipments of engines in lower horsepower ranges continue to trend downward, ranging from 0.5 per cent to -13.1 per cent.
